Quintana bests Buehrle

Yesterday afternoon, Jose Quintana was brilliant as the White Sox clinched their 3rd straight victory to close out what has been a tumultuous road trip on a positive note.

Quintana threw seven innings out shutout baseball, allowing no runs in three hits, walking two and striking out seven. It was a much needed win for not only Quintana himself but for the team as well as they now travel home to Chicago. He had the Blue Jays off balance all day and it was good to see.

Quintana was also able to out-duel former White Sox ace Mark Buehrle. Buehrle allowed two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out five over eight innings. It was odd seeing one of my all-time favorite White Sox players pitch in another uniform, but I guess that is just part of baseball. What was even more odd was rooting against him. It was weird cheering when the White Sox did well.

In the 3rd inning Gordon Beckham collected a two-out double and then Jose Abreu drove him home.

In the 4th, Moises Sierra hit his 2nd homer of the season to put the White Sox up 2-0.

The Sox also scored two runs off another former White Sox, Sergio Santos. In the 9th, Tyler Flowers drove in two runs on a two out single.

The 4-0 win was a solid one. Even for the bullpen. Eric Surkamp and Jake Petricka both threw a shutout inning in relief for the win. The Sox are still doing a “closer by committee” format and at least for a few games it has worked.

Tonight at 8:10pm ET the Chicago White Sox (39-44) begin a 3-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels (45-35). Hector Noesi (2-4; 4.18 ERA) will take on Garrett Richards (8-2; 2.76 ERA).

LET’S GO WHITE SOX!!!
