Sox lose both games in double-header

After Monday night’s rain out, the Chicago White Sox took to playing a double-header on Tuesday against the Anaheim Angels and promptly lost both games. Game 1 of 2 was lost 8-4 and game 2 was lost 7-5.

In the first game the Sox actually had a 3-0 lead early on. They scored three runs on a 3-run blast by Jose Abreu in the very first inning. It was his 26th homer on the season. When are teams going to learn that they just should not pitch to this guy? Maybe the fact that he won AL rookie of the month for June will wake them up.

This is the 2nd time he has won this award this season as he won it in April as well. He currently has a 16-game hitting streak and is the only player in MLB history to hit 26 home runs in his first 71 games played.

After that early start thanks to Abreu, the Sox offense went dormant. And although Hector Noesi pitched well for the first four innings, His control was not the greatest. He had allowed no hits but walked five batters in the first four frames. In the 5th he would lead off the inning with his 6th walk of the game before surrendering his first hit on a single by Collin Cowgill.

Mike Trout would then tie the game with a 3-run homer of his own which would be followed by a solo shot off the bat of Albert Pujols to put the Angels ahead.

Noesi would walk his 7th batter in the game to lead off the 6th before exiting the game. He would allow five runs on three hits, walk seven batters and strike out seven.

The Angels would score a run in the 6th-9th innings and the Sox would not score again till the 9th. It was ugly.

In game two, the Sox seemed to always be a bit behind and could never quite catch up. Scott Carroll once again struggled in a starting role allowing seven runs on 10 hits, walking three and striking out two in six innings of work. I still am not sure why he was moved out of the bullpen where he was doing well. Hopefully he goes back there soon.

The Sox did score five runs of Jerrod Weaver, but it was not enough. Conor Gillaspie hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd, his very first of the season and he also added an RBI single in the 5th.

Dayan Viciedo followed Gillaspie’s RBI with a 2-run shot of his own, but that was all the closer the Sox could get in this one cutting the lead to 6-5 at the time.

Tonight the Sox will close out the series against the Angles with John Danks(7-6; 4.26 ERA) against Tyler Skaggs (4-4; 4.34 ERA) at 8:10pm ET. Hopefully they will avoid a series sweep.

LET’S GO WHITE SOX!!!
